Eligibility

  • The Rio Tinto Prize for Sustainability is open to any not-for-profit, civil society or non-government organisation that achieves a positive impact on economic, environmental and/or social development.
  • Each submission must describe and demonstrate impact on at least two dimensions of sustainability – economic, environmental and/or social development.
  • Entries can be submitted in English, French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic or Chinese. 
  • An organisation may only enter one submission each year. 
  • The Rio Tinto Prize for Sustainability welcomes entries from small, medium and large organisations that have been incorporated and operating for a minimum of five years (ie. since 1st January 2003), based anywhere in the world.
  • The IBLF works with many not-for-profit partners worldwide. The IBLF cannot apply for the Rio Tinto Prize for Sustainability. Programmes or activities where the IBLF is one of the lead partners are not eligible for entry.
  • Prize recipients cannot enter the Prize for three years after winning. 
  • Training grant recipients are welcome to re-enter the Prize. 
  • Previous entrants are encouraged to reapply.
